The Authorization to Test (ATT) is a crucial element on your path to receiving your nursing license. After applying for the NCLEX Exam and receiving eligibility from your nursing regulatory body (NRB), you are issued this ATT by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing(NCSBN). You need this ATT to book your NCLEX Exam appointment. Without this, you cannot book your NCLEX Exam. 

How long is my ATT valid? 

The validity of the ATT can vary depending on the regulations of the respective Nursing Regulatory Body (NRB). In most cases, an ATT is valid for 90 days from the date of issuance. However, the Illinois regulatory body might offer a 180-day validity period for the ATT. 

Do you need a new ATT to retake NCLEX Exam?

Yes. If you fail your NCLEX Exam, you must obtain a new ATT from NCSBN to book an appointment for the next exam. Please be noted that you need to wait a minimum of 45 days to get a new ATT number after failing the exam. During this waiting period, it’s an excellent opportunity to review and prepare thoroughly for the next attempt to improve your chances of success.

If your application is approved by the Nursing Board, you will receive a new Authorization to Test (ATT) from Pearson Vue. Allow me to share some valuable tips that aided me in successfully passing the NCLEX Exam on my first attempt.

Have a look at your previous performance.

To enhance your chances of success in your NCLEX Exam retake, carefully review your exam performance report. This report will provide valuable insights into your strengths and weaknesses. Understanding where you made mistakes will help you tailor your study plan accordingly. 

Focus more on the topics that you struggled with during your last attempt. Addressing these areas in your preparation can bolster your knowledge and improve your performance, giving you a better shot at passing the exam this time. 

Prepare a Study Plan

A well-structured study plan is vital for success in any examination, including the NCLEX-RN. On a daily basis, I was doing at least 100 practice questions and focusing on the areas where I lacked knowledge. This strategy made me well-prepared and confident to attempt the exam successfully. 

Understand the Rationale

When practicing questions, pay close attention to the explanations and rationales behind the correct answers. Understanding the reasoning will deepen your knowledge and boost your confidence.

Practice Time Management 

Many people struggle to manage time during the exam. It is due to the pressure and fear of running out of time before completing all the questions. To conquer this issue, practice with sample questions under timed conditions to get used to the exam’s pacing. 

I was literally setting timers and alarm clocks to ensure that I practiced within the time limit. This strategy paid off as I managed my time during the exam, and the system shut down on me for approximately 90 minutes. I was stressed but got a good pop-up when I did the Pearson VUE Trick after the exam.

Take Care of Yourself

Remember to take breaks, get sufficient rest, eat well, and stay hydrated. A healthy mind and body will support your learning process.
